There is one place to be in New York during fashion week and it’s not where you think. Chasing celebrities and elbowing yourself into the paparazzi pit is thrilling and all, but the spectacle at Bushwig is on a whole different level. The level of artistry showcased by each attendee rivals some of the best styling and makeup work I’ve ever seen as a photographer. Enjoy my candid portraits of these sensational Drag Queens.
“While the fashion set raced between runways and coated Manhattan’s streets with an even-better-than-usual style showing, a crowd of another kind was gathering in Queens for Bushwig, the annual celebration of drag, music, queer style, and unabashed joy.”
“Bushwig, one of New York’s biggest and best drag festivals, started eight years ago under a small tent in a park in Queens. This year, over 300 drag artists descended on the Knockdown Center for the fest, which was founded by drag artist Horrorchata, to serve looks and shows.”
